Monel K-500 is the age-hardenable variant of Monel 400, with aluminum (~2.3-3.15%) and titanium (~0.35-0.85%) added for precipitation hardening. After solution + age treatment delivers tensile 130-180 ksi, yield 80-125 ksi - roughly 2x stronger than annealed Monel 400 while retaining most of its corrosion resistance. Per ASTM F468 for nonferrous bolting where higher strength is required.
Solution treat 1600 F (870 C), water quench, then age 1080 F (580 C) for 8 hours, furnace cool to 900 F (480 C) over 8-10 hours, hold 6-8 hours, air cool. Different age conditions trade strength for ductility. TorqBolt supplies K-500 in solution-annealed + aged condition with full chemistry + mechanical certification per F468.
Conditional. NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 permits N05500 only with strict hardness limits and specific aging conditions; consult the current standard for the latest acceptance criteria. TorqBolt can supply K-500 to a customer-specified aging cycle with hardness traceability for sour-service qualification.
Subsea wellhead bolting, marine propeller shafts, pump impeller studs, oilfield safety valves, and any seawater application where annealed Monel 400 lacks the proof load. Pairs well with Monel 400 nuts per ASTM F467 for matched-alloy assemblies.
